Bourke Street, Surry Hills in early 2010 - quiet, safe,
convenient and attractive for residents and visitors alike

All this is about to change for the worse when Sydney Council replaces the western parking lane (pictured) with a narrow two-way cycleway which would NOT be permitted under Copenhagen's design guidelines

The Friends of Bourke Street meet regularly to discuss improvements and discourage threats to the street's amenities.

The City of Sydney Council's misleadingly-named "safe cycleway" program is currently causing much local concern.

The destructive design being squeezed into Bourke Street - riddled with dangerous intersections - has been totally discredited in Europe and North America, but Council's large ratepayer-funded marketing team continues to promote it and to suppress all consideration of safer alternatives.

We invite you to join us in opposing Council's "spin".
